First Light, Last Light

It has been several weeks since I posted. I feel like I just posted about the offerings I make at the first snow. Now, though, it feels like I've been blanketed in snow for weeks: dark, cold, smothering snow.  I struggle with winter and functioning in the dark time. I sleep a lot, watch a lot of TV. Eat too much chinese takeout. The time between Yule and Imbolc is a resting time. The sun is on its way back but it's too soon to tell.

But last night, when I walked out of my job at 5 pm, for the first time in this long winter, it was still light. Not full light, not even sunset, but twilight. The sky was a dark green-velvet blue and the bare tree limbs covered it with stark, black lace. And something stirred in me. I wanted to dance and scream.

I'm alive! The year is reborn. Hail Sulis, the sun is here!

This is what spring looks like. Really! (image via pixabay.com)
